Joint China-New Zealand Workshop on Software Engineering (CNZSE)

The goal of the workshop is bring together academic researchers from Chinese and New Zealand Universities who are interested and active in software engineering – both theoretical and applied.

Led by representatives from the University of Waikato, New Zealand and the Yunnan University, China, the workshop will provide opportunites to present and discuss current research work in the area of software engineering, as well as identify possibilities for future, international collaboration.

Research presentations will be given by representatives of both the University of Waikato and Yunnan University. All attendees will be invited to discuss potential international collaboration on research ideas during break-out discussion sessions. Attendees will be invited from New Zealand and Chinese Universities and attendees of the SERA 2018 conference.

This will be a one-day workshop with the following format:

Dr Judy Bowen - University of Waikato (judy.bowen@waikato.ac.nz)
Judy Bowen’s main research area is the integration of formal methods with user-centered design approaches for interactive systems. She has a particular interest in the design, use and testing of safety-critical interactive systems such as medical devices. She has published a number of journal and refereed conference papers, has been on several programme committees and is the co-editor of the recently published “Handbook of Formal Methods in Human Computer Interaction (Springer, 2017). She is a member of IFIP Working Group 2.7/13.4 devoted to User Interface Engineering and a member of the steering committee for the Engineering Interactive Computer Systems (EICS) conference.

Dr. Yifan Chen is a Professor of Engineering and the Associate Dean External Engagement for the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences in the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. Professor Chen’s current research interests include computing-inspired biosensing and communication-inspired biotransport, internet-of-nano-things, nanonetworks, and molecular communications. He is the Coordinator of the European FP7 “CoNHealth” project on intelligent medical ICT an elected Working Group Co-leader of the European COST Action TD1301 “MiMed” project on microwave medical imaging, an Advisory Committee Member of the European Horizon 2020 “CIRCLE” project on molecular communications, an Associate Investigator of the New Zealand Consortium for Medical Device Technologies (CMDT) and MedTech Centre of Research Excellence (MedTech CoRE), a Voting Member of the IEEE Standards Development Working Group 1906.1 on nanoscale and molecular communications, an Editor for IEEE Communications Society Best Readings in Nanoscale Communication Networks and IEEE Access Special Section in Nano-antennas, Nano-transceivers, and Nano-networks/Communications, and a Vice Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Emerging Technologies Initiative for Molecular, Biological and Multi-Scale Communications. He also served as a General Chair, Technical Program Chair, Tutorial and Special Session Chair, and Local Organization Committee Chair for several premier IEEE conferences such as ICC, ICCE-China, ICCC, ICCS, APCAP, APEMC, EDAPS, etc. He is a Fellow of IET and a Senior Member of IEEE.

Yan Kang - Yunan University (562530855@qq.com)
Dr. Yan Kang is an associate Professor and the Dean of department of Software Engineering in Yunnan University, Kunming, P. R. China. Dr. Yan’s current research interests include requirement engineering and evolution algorithms, data mining, and nature language processing. She has published a number of journal and refereed conference papers, has been on several programme committees such as 2010 3rd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, and 2011 4th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Informatics. She is a member of CCF and devoted to Requirement Engineering, the information expert of Yunnan mobile communications group for information construction, and a member of the Yunnan Intelligent City Research Institute for the Intelligent Transportation.

Dr Xuan Zhang - Yunnan University (909681639@qq.com)
Dr. Xuan Zhang is an associate professor in Yunnan University. She is the core scientist of Yunnan Key Laboratory of Software Engineering and Yunnan Software Engineering Academic Team. She is also the Academic Technology Leader in Kunming and Excellent Youth Scholars of Yunnan University. She is the Principal Investigator of two projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and seven projects supported by the Science Foundation of Yunnan Province. Her research areas include requirements engineering, software process, and trustworthy software. She is a member of Software Engineering Committee in China Computer Federation.

 

Special Session 1: Software Engineering for ICBM (IoT,Clouding, Big Data and Mobiles) Applications

Purpose:

Adaptation of IoT, Clouding, Big Data and Mobile are expected to be more ubiquitous, making them as significant components for the Future of Internet. Nowadays, we have started to analyze and discuss the importance of integrating them, and the challenges derived from such integrations. The proposed special session aims to understand the data and where the data lead us. How the numbers of devices are currently connected and are generating enormous amounts of data.This session covers ideas about connecting devices that can exchange data using existing or modified technology, multiple IoT applications, cloud environment, and mobile related studies.
